It appears that you might be getting some font substitution when you convert the file. As a test, please try converting it from within Adobe Reader, and disable OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Please let us know how that goes, and we'll take it from there.
