Re: How do I make text boxes stay in place when exporting pdf files?

Ti42,

Thank you very much for sharing your PDF document and screenshots with us.

The screenshots in particular gave us an important clue.  The PDF attachment was opened in Apple Mail's preview, not in Adobe Reader.  I can confirm it because the top toolbar shows the "Done" button label and the Share icon in blue.  Adobe Reader shows the icons and labels in salmon pink (that is the current Reader UI theme).

Not all PDF viewers are made equally. It appears that Apple Mail's preview has a defect in displaying text annotations.

When you receive an email in Apple Mail (the default mail app on iPad/iPhone) and tap the attachment icon to open it, Apple Mail shows the PDF document in its own preview window.

  1. Tap anywhere in the document to display the toolbar.
  2. Tap the blue Share icon in the toolbar.

  3. In the popup window, scroll to the right (if necessary).
  4. Tap the "Open in Adobe Reader" icon.

Now that the PDF document is displayed in Adobe Reader for iOS (not in Apple Mail's preview), the text annotations should appear in the proper position.

You can also open the PDF attachment in the desktop version of Adobe Reader XI to verify it.  Interestingly, the desktop version of Apple's Preview app version 7.0 shows text annotations in the proper position.  Thus, I assume that it is a defect only in Apple Mail's preview for iOS.

In addition, please note that other non-Adobe PDF viewers may not render other types of annotations (highlight, underline, sticky notes, etc.) or form fields properly.

Please let us know if you have additional questions.
