Do a search for

black and white adjustment layer

hue/saturation/luminance adjustment layer

In fact, when you look at the bottom of the layers panel you will find a button that looks like a half filled circle. Click on it, You will find the ones I mentioned above. Between the two lines are those for altering its color. It would be wise to play with each of these and some other others as well and see what they do to a copy of an image. In other words, don't apply effects to an image that you are not familiar with and not know how to undo what you did.

The good news is these are non-destructible, but until you understand them and know how to undo what you did, it is wise to treat all commands/filters/tools as though they are destructible. Meaning no way to undo it with out having another copy of an image on hand. Think of it as a safety measure that can be turned off later when you know what you are doing.

Always save a psd version to re-edit later on, this help undo anything you did. All jpg's are destructible, and therefore should be used for sharing not for editing if possible. There will be time you will not have a choice and a jpg is all that is available, but in that case, save a psd file before starting, as that will be the best original you have to re-edit later.

How is a jpg destructible?

A jpg image is a lossy format meaning every time you save, open, and save again, the data is reduced by throwing out chunks of color information. If repeated enough the image will become blocky to a point the image is not good enough for use.

A jpg also can not save layers, live type, shapes, transparency or alpha channels. This mean a file with multiple layers and has these other features, will be flattened. A flattened file will have only a single background layer and anyplace that was transparent is now white.

This is why a jpg is no good for a master editable file. And is an excellent choice for sharing, since it throws out so much data, it is naturally smaller in size.
